Our Promise TO YOU

Curriculum and Learning

At Plainland Kindergarten and Child Care, our curriculum is designed to support every child’s growth, wellbeing, and development. Our educators build meaningful relationships with children, taking the time to understand their thoughts, feelings, and interests. Through these strong connections, we create a nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident to learn.

Our program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and is informed by our centre philosophy. This philosophy is developed and regularly reviewed in partnership with children, families, educators, and management to ensure it reflects the needs and values of our community.

At Plainland Kindy, we believe children should have the freedom to be children. We view learning as a partnership:

Children are the Directors – they lead the way by sharing their interests, ideas, and curiosity each day.

Educators are the Managers – we guide and extend learning by thoughtfully building educational experiences around these interests.

Our goal is to nurture a love of lifelong learning by encouraging children to actively explore, discover, and participate in meaningful experiences.

Our Educational Approach

Our curriculum is inspired by leading childhood development theorists including Lev Vygotsky, Loris Malaguzzi, Urie Bronfenbrenner, and Jean Piaget, whose ideas continue to shape early childhood education around the world.

Lev Vygotsky emphasised the importance of relationships and social interaction in learning. Educators support children by guiding and extending their understanding through supportive teaching strategies known as scaffolding.

Loris Malaguzzi believed children are capable, curious individuals who are able to construct their own knowledge through exploration and creativity.

Urie Bronfenbrenner highlighted how a child’s development is influenced by their environment, family, and community — reinforcing the idea that it truly takes a village to raise a child.

Jean Piaget believed children actively construct their own understanding of the world through hands-on learning and discovery.

Together, these perspectives guide our program, which focuses on the interaction between the child, the environment, and the educator to support meaningful learning experiences.

Families can stay connected to their child’s learning through our digital communication platform OWNA, where daily updates, learning stories, and developmental progress are shared. Families are encouraged to engage with educators and contribute to their child’s learning journey.

Sustainability

At Plainland Kindy, we are committed to teaching children how to care for their environment and become responsible global citizens. Sustainability is embedded in our everyday practices through hands-on experiences, environmental awareness, and collaborative projects with families and educators.

We aim to empower children to become champions for their world, developing habits that support a sustainable future

Partnerships with Families and Community

We believe strong partnerships with families and our local community are essential for children’s development and wellbeing.

Families are valued as important partners in our service. Through open communication, collaboration, and shared experiences, we work together to support each child’s growth.

We also actively engage with our wider community to help children develop a sense of belonging and confidence as active participants in their world.

Cultural Inclusion and Respect

We celebrate the diverse cultures within our centre and believe that every child’s identity, background, and heritage should be valued and respected.

Our educators work to build trusting and respectful relationships with families and communities while supporting children to learn about and appreciate cultural diversity. Through everyday experiences and celebrations, children develop understanding, empathy, and respect for others.

At Plainland Kindy, we are committed to continually learning, growing, and strengthening our cultural awareness to ensure every family feels welcomed and respected.
